Application Procedures
1.Applications for our scholarships must be made online.
2.It is a condition of the scholarship that the successful applicants must gain a place in the respective University or Research Institute where they plan to do their research.
3. Applicants should therefore enroll with the University/Research Institute when applying for the SMF scholarship. Please check directly with the organisations through the following web-links:
-National University of Singapore
-Nanyang Technological University
-National Institute of Education
-National Cancer Centre Singapore
-National Neuroscience Institutue
-Institute of Mental Health
-Temasek Life Sciences Lab.
4. Existing students/staff of the University/Research Institute need not re-enroll, but should check directly with these organisations on the relevant forms which they may be required to complete.
5.Applicants for our scholarships must ensure that their applications meet the respective dead-lines of the University or Research Institute where they plan to do their research.
6.On submission of the SMF on-line application form, a reference number will be generated and a URL Link will be sent to your e-mail address.
7.This reference number is required for the submission of the hard copy of your application, and is to be written on every page of the documents that you are enclosing.
8. Your completed SMF Scholarship Application Forms should be sent directly to the University or Research Institute for initial processing.
Documents Required
To support your application, it is important that the required documentation (in English and duly certified) are enclosed with your application form.
Please ensure that you enclose the following documents when you submit your applicaiton:
a. Detailed Curriculum Vitae
b. Certificates
Basic and post graduate qualifications including detailed transcripts of grades/scores.(check directly with the Uinversity/Research Institute on TOEFL/GRE/GMAT requirements)
c. Abstract of Proposed Plan of Research (250 words)
d. Proposed Plan of Research (2 pages) outlining the following:
- background information on the proposed research
-objectives of the project and the approaches proposed to achieve them
-experiments proposed and the results anticipated
-significance and novelty of the proposed research
-references
-research training plan
d. Abstract of previous research accomplsihments
(list titles and references of published works and works in process, patents, papers presented at conferences etc)
e. Letter of support by hosting scientific advisor/supervisor (based in Singapore)
f. CV of Advisor/Supervisor (2 pages)
g. Two reference letters
(Letters should provide information on your mastery of fundamental knowledge in your field,skills in designing research experiments, laboratory skills and techniques acquired,growth during perod observed,creativity,originality,self reliance and independance. Your referees should also indicate how long they have known and worked with you)
h. Progress Reports (for applicants currently doing research in Singapore)
Sumission of Applications
In addition to the on-line submission, you are required to send printed completed copies of the SMF Applcation Form togeher with all supporting documents to the Universites/Research Institutes for initial processing on behalf of the SMF.
